The Kentish Hotel

 
The Kentish Hotel - Waiuku's Queen Street is home to the oldest licensed hotel building in New Zealand. The elegant 'Kentish' was built in 1851. Since that time it has hosted many distinguished guests and was saved from a nearby fire by locals in 1926. The Kentish is full of history and charm and well worth a visit.

A rail enthusiasts' heaven! Hop aboard lovingly restored and maintained steam engines for a journey into yesteryear. Situated in the picturesque Franklin countryside on Glenbrook Station Road, (about 9km from Waiuku), the railway operates from Labour Weekend through to Queen's Birthday on Sundays and most public holidays.


Pioneer Memorial Cottage

Roulston Park, Cnr East & Stadium Drive, Pukekohe

Built in 1859 by John Martyn and garrisoned British troops during the Maori War of 1863. Furnished throughout with item of the period. Located in Roulston Park, cnr East St and Stadium Drive, Pukekohe.

Lighthouse at Manukau Heads

 
Lighthouse at Manukau Heads - The Lighthouse was first built in 1874 and has been meticulously refurbished and rebuilt using pieces from the original building. It has been relocated to a new site beside the Manukau Heads Signal Station platform which has been on this site since 1865. Amazing views of the Manukau Heads and Bar can be seen from this view point.

Tamakae Reserve, Waiuku

 
Tamakae Reserve, Waiuku - The George Doherty Green is located on the Tamakae Reserve in Waiuku.  On the reserve is assembled a cluster of heritage buildings including Hartmann House, which houses the local arts and crafts co-op selling top quality and varied crafts and gifts.

Alexandra Redoubt

Alexandra Redoubt Road, Tuakau

The Alexandra Redoubt was built in July 1863 by a detachment of the 65th Regiment. It is the best preserved of all the military posts and was built in 1863 - 64. Further information about this historic site is available at Franklin i-SITE Visitor Centres.


The Queen's Redoubt

Queen's Redoubt, Pokeno, is an historic place of great importance with the New Zealand Wars marking a huge change in the history of this country. The key campaign was the struggle for the Waikato and the Queen's Redoubt was the launching pad for the July 1863 British invasion, which began the Waikato War.
